Other Information

Harley first painted this barn in November 1963. Harley stated "I was working on that barn when I heard the news of John Kennedy's assassination." Through the years the barn fell into disrepair and the Mail Pouch signs faded (see photos 2-4, 25 & 26). The Lanesville Heritage Festival purchased the barn in April 1993 and restored it. Termite riddled support beams were replaced and doors and other damaged items such as the cupola were repaired or replaced. One of the most difficult aspects of the restoration was talking Harley out of retirement to repaint the old signs. He finally relented and in August 1993 he arrived at the site to tackle the job. Ray Day, noted artist and sculptor, used this opportunity to memorialize the repainting of the barn with his painting 'Fresh Paint' (see Photo 1.1).

Photos 1.2-1.15 are photos from the Warrick Family Collection which were taken in August 1993 during the repaint.

Photos 1-24 are views of the southwest end of the barn.

Photos 25-37 are views of the northeast end of the barn.
Where to find it

Along the northwest side of IN-62 west of IN-11 by 3.0 miles. The barn is on the right side of the highway headed southwest. Two ends. Red.
