Other Information Photos are out of date sequence to show better view of the barn in the 'Flag' position. In 2000 Gyla Schnauffer reported that this barn is very difficult to see. It is 'way up a hill behind houses in the trees'.
Photo 5 is a Google street view showing the location, in the trees just to the left of the white building.
Photo 6 is a Bing Map view showing the top of the barn, with the building in Photo 5 visible.
Note from Wyatt Coburn (July 3, 2023) "Very hard to see as it is uphill behind a new barn and overgrown. Still less tree cover in front of it than before."
The current owner of the barn is Dave Strake. He bought the farm from his Mother, in 1990, after his Father passed away. His parents bought the farm ca. 1950. Dave had been corresponding with Bill Vint prior to Bill's passing. Bill had intended to do an article for the newsletter about the barn. Dave had passed on the following information about the barn. "The farm was lived on and operated as a farm in the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
When my parents purchased the farm the Mail Pouch tobacco ad was on the barn. Mail Pouch
repainted the barn in the 1950-60s. Mail Pouch would send $10 and a pouch of tobacco on an annual
basis to my father.
This bank barn is over 100 years old and was probably built by Reithmiller and/or Lydick.
History of farm: previous owners Ira B. Reithmiller ; H.A Lydick; Clarence Stake".
Where to find it PA Rt. 286 northeast of PA Rt. 403 (2nd St.) intersection, in Clymer, by 3.6 miles. The barn is on the right side of the highway headed northeast. It is in the trees on the hillside and very difficult to see from the road. The Mail Pouch sign faces north. One side. Black backkgkround.
