Other Information
Photo 1 is the only photo of this sign so far noted. It was uncovered when the old Lowenstine's Department Store burned, in March 1996, and was razed. The sign has subsequently been covered up by new construction and lost. Fortunately the photographer, Peter Grube, had the foresight to document the sign.
Photos 2 & 3 are provided for a better understanding of the location of the Mail Pouch sign. Note in Photo 1 the letters 'LT' on the front of the building with the Mail Pouch sign. These letters are clearly visible in Photo 2; however, in Photo 3 the front of the building has been changed and the letters 'LT' no longer exist.
A unique feature of the sign are the dots in the margin of the sign. These dots were painted on 1'-0' centers and a photograph by the Mail Pouch painter was sent to Mail Pouch. Mail Pouch could then determine the square footage of the area painted which was a determining factor for paying the painter.
Where to find it *GONE* (covered by adjacent building) Along the right side of Franklin St., in Valparaiso, just south Lway) by about 100'. The building, which remains, is on the left side of Franklin St. headed south from Lincolnway. The sign faced south. Brick building. One side. Black backgrond.
