Photo 5 is an enlarged inset view from Photo 6.
In 1963 there was a red Mail Pouch sign on each end of the barn. Sometime prior to Myron Huffman's visit to the site in 1971 the siges were repainted with the sign on the southwest end repainted as a Mail Pouch sign and the northeast end was repainted with a "Harry's Furniture 1/2 mile on left" sign. The Google street view (April 2023) shows that Harry's Furniture still exists exactly 1/2 mile on the left headed southwest.
MPB 22-81-02 is southwest of MPB 22-81-04 on the opposite side of the highway by exactly 0.3 mile. The Mail Pouch sign on the northeast end of MPB 22-81-02 was painted black and due to the configuration of the barn it is very possible that MPB 22-81-02 also had a Black Mail Pouch sign on the southwest end. Traveller's along W. Michigan Ave would have had sightings of both red and black Mail Pouch signs travelling in either direction. Since this barn was so close to MPB 22-81-84, Myron Huffman would have photographed it and there in nothing in his collection showing the barn which indicates that the MPB 22-81-02 was painted prior to 1971 when Huffman was in the area.
Where to find it *GONE* (painted over) Along the southeast side of W. Michigan Ave. (US-12) southwest of Ann Arbor St., in Saline, by about 4.5 miles. The barn is on the left side of the highway headed southwest. Two ends. Red backgrounds.
