Other Information

Tom Plimpton has taken photos of many of the Indiana Mail Pouch entries. His location information has always been very accurate. His information for this photo is "US Rt. 127 - north edge of Harrodsburg.". The Historic Aerials' imagery (1965 & 1985) has been used to locate the barn and the entry information is based on a barn (including surrounding photo details) uploaded for this entry. The barn, house to the left, barn to the right and trees all match in the Historic Aerials' imagery. The barn is still existng; however, the siding, which was deteriorating in the 1988 photo (1) has been replaced. The barn and the house to the left are 1940-50 vintage. In the 1950 historic imagery the barn was very visible from US-127. By 1957 a building had been constructed at the southeast corner of the US-127/Nichols Ave. intersection which obstructed the clear view of the Mail Pouch sign from US-127. In the Historic Aerials' imagery the northeast corner of US-127/Nichols Ave. was a very large open field. No commercial development had started so The Mail Pouch sign would have been clearly visible from US-127 up until the commercial development of the field began in early 1990's.
Where to find it

*GONE* (barn siding changed) Along the south side of Nichols Ave. To access the site. Follow US-127 (N. College St.) north from the W. Lexington St. intrsection, in Harrodsburg, north 1.0 mile to Nichols Ave. intersection on the right. Make a right onto Nichols Ave and follow 540' to the barn on the right. The Mail Pouch sign faced northwest. One side. Black background.
