Other Information

This barn was owned by Fred Luthart. In an Oct. 2003 article, in the Batavia Daily News, Fred Luthart was interviewed by Susan J. Conrad. Her article stated, in part:  'Every week somebody stops to take pictures of it,' Fred Luthart of Ridgeway said about his barn with a Mail Pouch sign.  Luthart added an overhead door to his barn, but didn't consider doing away with the sign, which according to his deed, was painted in 1832.**  Luthart said that there's too much history in that sign to get rid of it.

**The date 1832 should probably be 1932 or 1952, since according to Barnstormer's Historian, Roger Warrick, the earliest known Mail Pouch painting is ca. 1880's. The 1832 date could be the date of original barn construction.
Where to find it

NY Rt. 63 (S. Lyndonville Rd.) north of NY Rt. 104 (Ridge Rd.), in Ridgeway, by about 1.1 mile. Almost directly across from the Postle Rd. intersection. The barn is on the right side of the road headed north. The MP sign faces west. One end. Black.
