The celebration began in 1900 and has been held annually since then. The celebration noted here was the 10th time the event had been held. The event is typically a 10-day festival celebrating Gunnison's ranching heritage and western spirit and features a rodeo that is annully rated as one of the top rodeos during the rodeo season.
